ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team opened its series against cross-street rival Henderson State with a 6-3 win on Thursday night under the lights at Clyde Berry Field.
The Tigers opened the scoring on a solo home run from
Reece McWilliams in the top of the second inning, which was the first of two round-trippers for the senior on Thursday. He hit another solo blast in the top of the seventh to put the Tigers back on top at 4-3.
Meanwhile,
Chase Oberle won the pitching battle against HSU's Ethan Roark. Oberle (4-4) went the distance for his second career complete game of the season, carving up HSU batters and recording a new career-high in strikeouts with 12. Roark (2-3) lasted seven innings and struck out eight Tiger batters.
Other offensive highlights for the Tigers included a two-run double from
Joseph Bolin in the sixth inning to force a 3-3 tie and an RBI triple from
Raygan Yager in the eighth.
Ouachita recorded 10 hits in the game, marking the team's 21st double-digit performance of the season.
Ashton Ybarra led the way in hits going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. McWilliams and
Jaren Ceasar both had two hits in the win.
With chances of inclement weather high for Friday, the teams will have a day off before finishing up the series on Saturday with a double header scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field. Any changes will be announced at
