Lady Tigers Eek Out 74-72 Win in First Conference Match-up

Box Score

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Getting the first conference victory of the year was not an easy task for Head Coach Garry Crowder and his Lady Tiger basketball team (3-1, 1-0 GAC) on Thursday evening, as they squeaked out a 74-72 victory over the visiting Lady Tigers of East Central University (3-2, 0-1 GAC).

The Lady Tigers trailed by two at halftime but posted a 41 point second half performance to take the win.

Kendra Coyle went off, recording 23 points and three steals in the contest. Ouachita also had two other double-digit scorers, with Monica Williams and Nashia James putting up 16 and 15 points respectively. Williams finished with a double-double, also posting a game high 13 rebounds. James and Elise Holman were selfless, both leading the team with four assists.

East Central used double-digit scoring totals from Lindsay McCown, Alycea Price and Dilan Webster to keep themselves in the game. They finished with 18, 14 and 12 respectively. Webster and Ashley Robison led the team in rebounding, each grabbing 11 boards in the game.

The Lady Tigers struggled from the floor, shooting 33.9 percent for the game, but a large part of their victory lied in their ability to control possession. The Lady Tigers only turned the ball over 13 times in the game, while they forced East Central into 19 turnovers.

Another large factor in the game was fouls, as Ouachita forced two of East Central's starters to foul out of the contest. East Central committed 28 fouls in the game, leading to 41 free throw attempts for Crowder's Lady Tigers. Ouachita converted on 27 of those attempts, enough to put them over the top.

The Lady Tigers, who currently hold a three game win streak, look to stay undefeated in GAC play on Saturday, when they host Southeastern Oklahoma State. That game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
