ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Lady Tigers hosted three dual meets over the weekend, as Delta State, Drury University and Northeastern State University came to town. The Lady Tigers were unable to record their first victory of the season though, falling in all three duals.
In their dual on Thursday with the Lady Statesmen of Delta State, the Lady Tigers were only able to record one team point, coming in a victory by
Kristin Bodine in singles play. In doubles action, Courtney Chumbley and Bodine fell to Delta's Jamais and Telvans by a score of 8-4, while
Samantha Street and
Lilia Sokolova fell to Delta's Tora and Wantzen by a score of 9-8.
McKenzie Cranford and Mary Wolf were unable to break the trend, eventually falling to Delta's duo of Mayeshire and Moya by a score of 8-3.
In singles play, Chumbley fell to Maria Moya by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Bodine's victory came over Erin Telvans, winning by a score of 6-4, 5-7. Sokolova was unable to find an answer for Lisa Jamais, falling by a score of 6-1, 6-1, while Street took a loss to Sandra Tora, falling by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Crawford was defeated by Elsa Wantzen, taking an 8-2 loss, while
Katelyn Barber rounded out the field for Ouachita, taking a victory over Delta's Emily Craven by a score of 8-3. Delta walked away with an 8-1 victory at the end of the day.
The Lady Tigers hosted Drury on Friday, falling by a score of 9-0 after a clean sweep by Drury. Chumbley and Bodine were unable to find an answer for Bea Juan and Stefanie Monsh of Drury, taking an 8-0 loss to the pair. Street and Sokolova took an 8-3 loss in doubles play to Pelagic Gamo and Jelena Schaeftlmeier, giving Drury an early 2-0 lead in the overall team score. Cranford and Wof took on Alana Bellinger and Abbey Sharpe of Drury, but were unable to get the Lady Tigers on the board, falling by a score of 8-5.
As they moved into singles play, the Lady Tigers had a lot of trouble. Chumbley faced Juan but was unable to do much, falling by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Bodine followed up Chumbley's match by taking on Gamo, eventually falling by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Up next was Sokolova, facing off against Monsh. Sokolova was unable to record a win for Ouachita though, taking a 6-3, 6-1 loss. Drury's impressive performances continued, as Schaeftlmeier defeated Ouachita's Street by a score of 6-1, 6-0, followed by a loss for Cranford, as she took on Drury's Sharpe, falling by a score of 8-1. Barber took on Drury's Bellinger, but was unable to steal a victory, falling 8-1 and clinching the sweep for Drury. Mary Wolf faced off with Ellen Bennett in singles action as well, falling by a score of 8-1. Drury took the overall dual by a score of 9-0.
The Lady Tigers faced off with Northeastern State on Saturday, looking to rebound from their previous two losses. Northeastern took all three doubles victories, as Chumbley and Bodine fell to Ivana Belejova and Tijana Skalvsevic by a score of 8-5, followed by a loss for Street and Sokolove versus Jeanne Mallem and Sara Trott by a score of 8-5. Cranford and Barber fell to NSU's Houda Bellamine and Barbara Jirickova by a score of 8-3.
In singles play, Ouachita again struggled to get on the board, receiving their only victory of the dual from Bodine. In the first match, Chumbey faced Belejova, falling by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Bodine's victory was next, as she downed Trott by a score of 5-7, 7-6. Sokolova played Mallem close, but eventually took a 6-4, 6-1 loss. Street was up next, facing Bellamine. Bellamine kept Northeastern's impressive performance going though, downing Street by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Cranford followed Street's loss by facing Skalvsevic. Cranford eventually fell by a score of 6-1, 6-0, followed by a loss for Wolf, as she faced Jirirkova and fell by a score of 6-0, 6-1. The Lady Tigers lost the dual overall by a score of 8-1 and fell to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
The Lady Tigers return to action on February 23, when they host Tarleton State at 3 p.m.
