Arkadelphia, Ark-The Ouachita men's tennis team continued their winning ways today with an 8-1 win over Division I University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at OBU's Heflin Tennis Center.
The Tigers began the match by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Marvin Muller and Helge Knuth defeated Hugo Gomez and Eduardo Luque 8-1 in the No. 1 position. At the No.2 spot freshman Kenny Brasil and Marko Boskovic won over Nicolas Plaza and Jorge Villicus 8-0. The #3 doubles was awarded to OBU by default.
In singles play, Helge Knuth won a hard fought match over Hugo Gomez, 6-3. 6-0, in the No. 1 position. Playing #2 freshman Marko Boskovic won over Eduardo Luque 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 3 position, Kenny Brasil made quick work of David Gomez 6-0, 6-1, while fellow freshman Jorge Villacis, in the fourth slot.
Senior James Ingrahm had a tough match with UAPB's Nicolas Plaza. Ingrahm fought hard but came up short losing 7-5, 6-1. OBU won #6 singles by default.
Coach Craig Ward said, “This is a good start against a good team. All of their guys fought hard but so did we. UAPB is an NCAA Division I school and is much better than the scores indicate. They came into this match prepared. We have a lot of tennis to play this season, and some things to work on, but this was definitely a good start.”
OBU has an overall record of 2-0.
The Tigers play their next match against Delta State University at 6PM on Thursday, February 16.
