Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Lady Tigers traveled to Denton, Texas to open the regular season against Texas Women's University. An early first half lead slipped away and they fell 80-72.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a seven point lead in the opening three minutes thanks to quick scores by Elise Holman and Nashia James, but the Pioneers of TWU cut that lead to one by the 14 minute mark. The two teams would swap leads for most of the first half, until the Pioneers' Ria Pateraki hit a jumper in the paint and put TWU up 35-32 with 3:52 left in the first half. The first half would end with the Lady Tigers trailing 44-37.

Elise Holman and Ashley Johnson would finish the first half as the Lady Tigers leading scorers with 10 points each. The Lady Tigers shot 43% from the field and 77% from the charity stripe in the first period.

In the second half, the Pioneers would extend their lead to 12 points and led 56-44 with 14:14 left to play. For the next four minutes of play, the Lady Tigers would lock down on defense and dominate the glass on both ends of the court. The defense held TWU scoreless and capitalized on rebounds to get open looks and cut the lead to 56-52 with just over 10 minutes left in the game.

With just under five minutes left to play the Lady Tigers had cut the lead to 65-63 on a pair of free throws by Breanna Harris. The Lady Tigers could not get the momentum to swing their way and missed some shots down the stretch. TWU would extend their lead in the last minutes of the game for a final of 80-72.

Ashley Johnson would lead all scorers with 16 points, shooting 6-8 from the field and 3-4 from the free-throw line. She also had seven rebounds. Breanna Harris had 14 points, three steals and shot 2-2 from behind the three-point arc. Elise Holman and Nashia James finished with 12 points each. James would lead the team in rebounds with nine. Katie Kaplar had eight points to go along with six boards, four of which came off the offensive glass. 

The Lady Tigers next game will be in Jessieville, Ark., where they will face off against Washburn Univeristy in the Hot Springs Village Lions Club Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, November, 16, 2013.
