Three-Point Shooting Plagues Lady Tigers

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm defeated the Lady Tigers 67-61 on Thursday, despite a six-point lead by the OBU at the half.
 
Nashia James made herself known early in the first half, scoring 10 of the first 17 points. James opened the game with a layup, followed by two free-throws to give OBU the 4-0 lead. She then nailed two three-pointers in the next two minutes.
 
James' hot start helped OBU claim a quick lead, and the Lady Tigers led the game for over 13 minutes in the 20-minute first half.  Ouachita went into halftime winning 40-34.
 
The Lady Tigers dominated the paint in the first half, scoring 20 points to SNU's 10. Forwards Erica Sharp and Katie Kapler led the charge inside, scoring nine points and seven points, respectively.
 
In the second half, the Lady Tigers maintained their lead for the first 15 minutes and at one point held a 12-point lead. With 4:38 to play, however, SNU took a one-point lead after a three-pointer from Callee Cox. From that point it was all Crimson Storm as they stretched their lead to six points to finish the game at 67-61.
 
Cox seemed to be the difference for the Crimson Storm, as well as poor shooting from the Lady Tigers. Cox scored 13 points in the second half, including three buckets from behind the arc. She finished with 26 total points. OBU shot ten three-pointers in the second half, but did not make one.
 
The Lady Tigers finished the game with 36 points in the paint and also 21 points off of SNU's 24 turnovers.  The deep ball plagued the Lady Tigers as they shot only 15.8% from behind the three-point line.
 
James led OBU with 16 points, five assists and four steals. Sharp added 13 points and five boards. Elise Holman scored 12 points for the Lady Tigers, and Kapler finished with 10.
 
The Lady Tigers (1-8, 0-4) are at home on Monday, January 6th, as they take on Blue Mountain College at 12 p.m.
