Lady Tigers drop regular-season finale in Monticello, 64-75

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. – Free throws were the deciding factor in the Lady Tigers final regular season game against the university of Arkansas Monticello. Ouachita shot 63 percent from the free-throw line, while the Cotton Blossoms went 26-29 for 90 percent to win 75-64. The loss put the Lady Tigers at 9-17, 7-13 in the Great American Conference.  
 
 
The first half was a back and forth pace with six ties and four lead changes. Ouachita had the largest lead of five points with 14:25 left in the half. Eight Lady Tigers scored in the first half.
 
The Lady Tigers shot well in the first half, going 13-26 from the floor for a 50 percent shooting percentage and shot 44% from three-point range. The Cotton Blossoms however, shot 63 percent in the first half. It was the best shooting percentage against Ouachita in their last four games.
 
Nashia James led the Lady Tigers with 11 points at the half. Elise Holman finished the first period with seven.
 
The Cotton Blossom's Jordan Goforth came out hot in the second half and made her first three shots. UAM built a seven-point lead early in the half, but a layup by Ashley Johnson and a three by Breanna Harris brought the Lady Tigers within two, 49-51 with 9:01 left to play.
 
With 5:04 left, Nashia James would score on a layup and sink a free throw for the conventional three-point play to give the Lady Tigers a one-point lead 57-56.
 
With both teams in the bonus, the game came down to free throws. The Cotton Blossoms shot 18-20 from the free-throw line in the second half. They sank nine straight in the final minutes to pull away from Ouachita, who shot 60 percent from the free-throw line in the second period.
 
Nashia James finished with 21 points and six rebounds. Breanna Harris scored 11 and Elise Holman finished with nine points.
 
The Lady Tigers travel to Bartlesville, Okla. next week to play in the GAC Tournament.
