Ouachita bulldozes ECU for 41-20 win

Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – On a warm, humid night at Cliff Harris Stadium, the Ouachita Tigers' offense ran the football and then ran the football some more as they toppled the Tigers of East Central University 41-20. The Tigers rushed 78 times for 350 yards. Senior Steven Kehner rushed for 160 yards on 38 carries, crossing the goal line for a career high four touchdowns.

Ouachita opened the game with a 14 play, 80-yard drive capped off by a one-yard touchdown by Kehner. East Central started their opening drive on their own 33 yard line. After a holding penalty, Ouachita's Zack Mitchell picked off ECU quarterback Spencer Bond and returned it 16 yards. It was Mitchell's first of three picks in the game.

Kehner scored on the ensuing drive after the turnover by Bond. His second score was identical to the first, rushing it in from one yard out. Trailing 14-0, ECU responded with a scoring drive of their own. This time Bond would find wide receiver David Moore on a 12-yard touchdown pass to bring East Central back within seven, 14-7.

With just over two minutes left in the first, senior cornerback Jeremy Small would get the second interception of the night off Spencer Bond. The Tigers would take over on the ECU 37 yard line and drive down to the 13 before the end of the first quarter.

Ouachita would get down to the ECU four yard line, where the defense would stop the Tigers on third down for no gain. The Ouachita offense would respond on a fourth and one, as the offensive line surged forward allowing Steven Kehner to score his third touchdown on the ground in the first half.

Trailing 21-7, the ECU Tigers responded with an 82-yard drive, highlighted by a 40-yard touchdown reception by David Moore, his second of the half. On the ensuing kickoff, Ouachita wide receiver Ke'Vontae Pope would return the kick 58 yards and the Tigers would start their drive on the ECU 22 yard line. Matt Ehasz would connect on a 33-yard field goal to give the Tigers a 24-14 lead.

Zack Mitchell would get his second interception on the first play of the next ECU drive. Ouachita would drive into ECU red zone but would be stopped on a fourth and one at the ECU six yard line.

The half would end with Ouachita holding a 24-12 advantage.

East Central would open the second half with a six play, 50-yard drive that would get them into Ouachita territory. Ouachita safety Zack Mitchell picked off ECU quarterback Spencer Bond for the third time.

Ouachita would start their drive on their own seven yard line. The drive would go 93 yards on 17 plays, taking 7:24 off the clock. During the drive, Ouachita would face a third and long three times. Each time quarterback Kiehl Frazier would find his receivers Drew White and Evian Hill for completions and get the first down. The drive was capped off by Kehner touchdown run, his fourth and final of the game.

ECU quarterback Spencer Bond would lead his team back with a responding touchdown drive of their own, hooking up with David Moore for their third touchdown of the game. The extra-point attempt bounced off the right upright and the Ouachita lead was cut to 31-20.

At the end of the third quarter, Frazier would find Pope for a 31-yard pass completion on a third down and 20 to extend the Ouachita drive into the fourth quarter. Brandon Marks would find the end zone on a nine-yard run to cap off another long Ouachita drive with 12:38 left to play.

Matt Ehasz would add another field goal to make it 41-20. Freshman AJ Burton would pick off Rocky Moore to seal the victory for Ouachita.

The Tigers ended the night with 515 yards of total offense on 98 plays. They held East Central to 88 yards rushing in the game. Ouachita was 7-8 in the red zone and 12-20 on third down conversions.

For Ouachita, Steven Kehner had 160 rushing yards. Brandon Marks finished 91 yards rushing.

Quarterback Kiehl Frazier finished the game 11-20-0 for 165 yards passing. He rushed 11 times for 105 yards.

Safety Zack Mitchell had four tackles to go along with a career-high 3 interceptions.

Ouachita (2-0) will travel to Durant, Oklahoma next week to take on the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State (1-2). Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
