Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Lady Tigers claimed their third Great American Conference win of the season on Saturday, defeating the Southern Arkansas Lady Muleriders 88-72.
Breanna Harris led the charge with a game-high 25 points.
After Southern Arkansas (4-13, 2-9 GAC) held the lead for much of the first half, the Lady Tigers took over with an 8-0 run which ended on a last-second jumper from
Katherine West to put Ouachita ahead 37-32 at the break. Despite the lead, Ouachita posted a shooting percentage of only 36.4 percent. The Lady Tigers did, however, convert on eight more free-throws in the half than the Lady Muleriders.
Ouachita committed only five turnovers in the first half, while forcing 13 SAU turnovers. The Lady Tigers took advantage of their opponent's mistakes, scoring 14 points off turnovers.
Harris and
Katie Kapler provided the offense in the first half, scoring 13 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Lady Tigers maintained a tight lead throughout the second half, until Harris knocked down a three-pointer with 13:58 to go to give Ouachita its first double-digit lead. The Lady Tigers then ended the game on a 5-0 run to claim the 16-point victory, Ouachita's largest conference win of the season.
Harris and Kapler were the sparks on offense again in the second half, adding 12 points and 10 points, respectively. West also added 10 in the half, including seven free-throws.
Ouachita greatly improved its shooting in the second half, converting on 61.5 percent of its shots from the floor. The Lady Tigers also netted 15-17 from the charity stripe. For the game, the Lady Tigers out-rebounded SAU 37-35, had one less turnover and dished out seven more assists.
Behind Harris' 25 points, Kapler finished with 20 on 8-12 shooting from the floor, and West added 12. Kapler led the Lady Tigers with six rebounds, and
Kori Bullard finished with six points, seven assists and four boards.
The Lady Tigers (7-11, 3-8 GAC) are currently ranked ninth in the GAC. The team will travel to Monticello, Ark. on Thursday, Jan. 29, to take on the University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms (8-7, 6-4 GAC). The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
