ENNIS, Texas – Ouachita Tiger's Men's Tennis Team takes down nationally ranked St. Edwards, 5-2.
The Tigers won their second game in a row building off of their season opening win against Texas A&M Texarkana.
The Tigers came out firing in doubles as the won two out of three matchups. In the first matchup
Juan Moncada and
Francisco Oliveira faced off against Luis Diaz and Anish Sriniketh. The team from St. Edwards defeat the Tigers in the tiebreaker winning 7-6.
Ouachita would bounce back as
Dan Kaplun and
Santiago Kearney would defeat their opponents by a score of 6-3.
Nair Adi and
Tobias Fuerschuss would follow suit also winning their matchup 6-3. The Tigers would enter singles play with a 1-0 advantage over St. Edwards.
Juan Moncada drew the number one slot for the second straight match as he faced off against Luis Diaz. After dropping the first set 4-6, Moncada would battle back winning the match with a final of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Santiago Kearney would follow suit in the second slot facing off against Anish Sriniketh. Keaney would win the first set, drop the second and win the tie breaker for a final score of 7-6, 1-6, 7-5.
Going into slot three the Tigers would only need one more point to seal the victory over the 24 ranked nationally Hilltoppers. Freshman
Francisco Oliveira would secure the win for the Tigers as he defeated his St. Edwards foe 6-1,6-4. In the fourth position
Dan Kaplun would jump out early on the Hilltopper but would fall in the end 6-4, 6-7, 1-6.
Nair Adi would draw the fifth hole and would battle hard but lose in consecutive sets 2-6, 3-6. Freshman
Tobias Fuerschuss would close out the match for the Tigers as he won defeated his opponent 6-3, 7-5.
The Tigers will return to action Saturday February 9 at 10:00 AM against St. Mary's University (Texas) in Midlothian, Texas.
