ARKADELPHIA – Following a successful fall season, the Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team heads into the spring portion of the schedule with four of its players receiving regional or national recognition.
Francisco Oliveira and Santiago Kearney have earned national rankings after the duo qualified to compete at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia this past October.
Oliveira, a senior from Porto, Portugal, is ranked No. 17 in the nation and No. 4 in the central region in singles. He reached the national quarterfinals in singles at the ITA Cup before falling to finalist and second-ranked Joaquin Benoit from North Georgia.
After winning the region championship in doubles and finishing seventh at the ITA Cup, Oliveira and Kearney are ranked No. 8 in the nation and first in the region. Kearney, a senior from Buenos Aires, Argentina is also ranked No. 18 regionally in singles.
Two other Tigers have earned a spot in the regional rankings for singles. Sophomore Alex Blanchar from Barcelona, Spain is ranked No. 13. Sophomore Fernando Docters from La Rioja, Argentina is ranked No. 20.
