Ouachita Baptist men's tennis picked up a victory over a ranked opponent Sunday, defeating No. 20 West Alabama 5-2 at Ward Tennis Center. Senior
Carlos Solorzano clinched the match for the Tigers on Court 5.Â
"I was very proud of all the guys for keeping their composure after going down a point in the doubles," head coach
Craig Ward said. "I don't like to single out individuals, but I was particularly happy for Carlos to get the deciding point and clinch the match. He is a senior and has gotten himself in tremendous shape. It paid off with a three-set win to clinch the deciding point."
West Alabama gained an early edge by taking the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 3. The Tigers came out strong in singles, winning three matches in straight sets.
Francisco Oliveira defeated Chris Bulus 6-0, 6-2 on Court 1.  At No. 4 singles,
Alex Blanchar defeated Nuutti Jokinen 6-3, 6-3, and
Fernando Docters defeated Noah Johansen 6-1, 6-1 on Court 6.Â
After dropping the first set of his match, Solorzano finished strong in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Patricio Nieto.
Santiago Kearney finished up the match with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-3 victory on Court 2 over Ilari Vesanen.

The Tigers head to Clinton, Mississippi to take on Mississippi College at 1 p.m. Monday.
