TALEQUAH, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University women's tennis team was back in action over the weekend at the Rumble by the River hosted by Northeastern State University. The Tigers came away with four combined wins in the event.
Ouachita opened the event on a high note, winning two of its three doubles matches against Northeastern State.
Austynn Crocker and
Natalia Zamora Caprirolo took down NSU's No. 1 doubles team with a score of 6-4, while teammates
Carla Gallart Polo and
Taylor Hansard won in the No. 3 spot by a score of 7-5.
The Riverhawks bested the Tigers in all seven singles matches with Zamora the closest to grabbing a win, eventually losing in a 10-7 tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets in the No. 2 spot by scores of 4-6 and 6-1.
The Tigers also took on Arkansas Tech on Friday, losing all three matchups in doubles and all seven matchups in singles. Zamora again came the closest to a win, winning the first set in singles in the No. 2 spot 6-1, dropping the second set 6-7 (3), and falling in the tiebreaker 10-4.
Saturday featured an all-singles day against Tech and NSU.
Clarisa Valenzuela highlighted the day for the Tigers with a hard-fought win in the No. 5 spot against NSU's Belinda Jayaprakash by scores of 6-7 (3), 6-2, and 10-7. Valenzuela moved up to the No. 3 spot later against Tech, and earned a win over Maria Krite by scores of 7-5 and 6-3.
Ouachita is set to close out the fall portion of the 2022-23 schedule at the Great American Conference Fall Championships, hosted by Arkansas Tech in Russellville on October 21-22.
