WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team made it to the finals of five different flights over the weekend at the Midwestern State Invitational, highlighted by three combined victories.
The Tigers shined in doubles with two of the three duos winning their respective flights.
Phil Exner and
Alex Blanchar won the A flight with an 8-4 win in the first round over a team from Southeastern Oklahoma State, an 8-3 win over a team from Washburn in the semifinals, and an 8-5 win over another team from Southeastern in the finals.
Fernando Docters and
Aaron Osmond won the B flight with a 9-7 win over a team from Midwestern State in the first round, followed by an 8-4 win over a team from Cameron in the second round, and an 8-3 win over another team from Midwestern in the finals.
Ouachita's third doubles team of
Matias Parzajuk and
Yosua Lumbanradja missed out on the finals on the C flight with a close loss in the semis to a team from Washburn, which won 9-8 on a 7-4 tiebreaker.
In singles, Exner led the way, winning the A flight after beating Midwestern's Juan David Duque in the first round 6-6 and 6-4, taking down Southeastern's Juan Gonzalez in the second round 6-4 and 7-6 (7-4), and then winning the finals against Washburn's Rendon Santiago 7-6 (7-4) and 6-2. Blanchar finished third in the flight.
Matias Parzajuk made it to the finals of the C flight in singles, knocking off Southeastern's Marin Jurkovic in the first round 6-4 and 6-2, beating Washburn's Daniel Bird in the second round 6-4, 4-6, and 10-8, before falling to Cameron's Kristian Kubic in the finals in a close match ending with scores of 2-6, 6-2, and 8-10.
Lumbanradja made it to the finals of singles flight F, beating Washburn's Benjamin DuBois 6-4 and 7-5 in the first round, Southeastern's Kganya Ranamane 6-1 and 6-3 in the semis, and then falling to Cameron's Alvaro Chavez in the finals by scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
