RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team turned in three flight wins over the weekend at the Great American Conference Fall Championships hosted by Arkansas Tech University.
Out of the six combined singles and doubles flights, Ouachita players either won or finished second in five flights, including two wins out of the four singles flights and one win out of the two doubles flights.
Fernando Docters and
Aaron Osmond were Ouachita's singles winners.
Docters had a tough rout with tiebreaker wins in the first round and in the finals. He beat Harding's Milosh Petrovich in the first round by scores of 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, and 10-7 in the tiebreaker. In the second round, he posted a convincing win over Southern Arkansas' Lluc Camps 6-2 and 6-3. In the finals, he came back from a 6-0 loss in the first set to Harding's Cas de Ruiter to win 6-4 in the second and 10-2 in the tiebreaker.
Osmond also needed a pair of tiebreakers to win his respective flight. He beat Harding's Andres Urquiola in the first round by scores of 3-6, 6-3, and 10-5 in the tiebreaker. In the second round, he beat Southeastern Oklahoma State's Marcus Del Rosario 4-6, 6-1, and 10-4 in the tiebreaker. In the finals, he won in straight sets over Harding's Bryce Walker 6-4 and 6-1.
Osmond and Docters also shined in doubles, winning their respective flight over teammates
Phil Exner and
Alex Blanchar in the finals 7-5.
Also in singles play, Exner reached the finals in his respective flight, while Blanchar reached the finals of his consolation flight.
In doubles,
Matias Parzajuk and
Ramon Strassman lost in the finals of their respective flight, having to win three matches to get there.
The GAC Fall Championships concluded the fall portion of the 2022-23 schedule. Ouachita will be back in action after the holidays with its first match of the spring season set for February 4. The full schedule will be announced soon and made available at OBUtigers.com.
