ARKADELPHIA – G. Allen hit a go-ahead three-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Ouachita Baptist University baseball team to a 10-9 win over Pitt State on Saturday at home.
For Allen, it was RBIs number three, four, and five of the game. He also had an RBI groundout and a bases-loaded walk earlier in the contest.
Allen's homerun was just the fourth Ouachita hit of the game. The Tigers took advantage of 11 Pitt State walks to find ways to score a majority of the other runs.
Down 5-0 in the third, the Tigers found the scoreboard with an RBI double by
Isaac Nowell, Allen's RBI groundout, and a sacrifice fly by
Cade Burris to cut the deficit down to two runs.
After Pitt State scored one in the fourth to go up 6-3, the Tigers tied up the game with another three-run inning, this time on two bases-loaded walks and one on a wild pitch.
The Gorillas regained the lead with one in the fifth and one in the seventh to lead by three heading into the bottom of the eighth.
Prior to Allen's go-ahead homer in the eighth,
Pierce Mitchum hit an RBI double to put the Tigers down 9-7. Allen's homerun came on the first pitch he saw with two outs.
Caleb Donoho (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless inning in the top of the eighth.
Carter Wade recorded his first save of the season after keeping the Gorillas scoreless in the ninth with two strikeouts.
The Tigers are back at home on Sunday, hosting St. Cloud State starting at noon.
