ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team completed a three-game sweep over Southern Nazarene with a 14-4 win on Sunday to start Great American Conference play unbeaten.
The Tigers (6-4, 3-0 GAC) beat the Crimson Storm (1-11, 0-3 GAC) in walk-off fashion for the second straight game. Ouachita needed extra innings in game two on Saturday to beat SNU on a game-winning hit, but made up for that extra time with a run-rule win on Sunday in game three.
The game-winner on Sunday came in the form of a grand slam homerun by Jaxon Chaney in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the Tigers up by the needed 10 runs to end the game early. It was Chaney's only at bat of the game after coming in as a defensive substitution in the half inning prior.
Ouachita matched its runs and hits total in the win with four Tigers ending up with a multi-hit game. Tallon Heine led the team with a perfect 4-for-4 game with three runs batted in and three runs scored. Jud Arrington went 3-for-4. Isaac Nowell went 2-for-4. G. Allen went 2-for-3.
The Tigers used three pitchers in the win, highlighted by Cameron Marchant's five innings in relief. Marchant (2-0) earned the victory after keeping SNU scoreless and only giving up two hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Weather permitting, the Tigers are set to play a non-conference double header at home on Tuesday against Christian Brothers before heading out to Shawnee, Oklahoma next weekend to face off against Oklahoma Baptist.
