ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team closed out its home Great American Conference series against Oklahoma Baptist on Monday, losing both games of a double header by scores of 8-0 and 11-9.
The Tigers (4-12, 0-3 GAC) end up losing the series three games to none after the Bison (11-5, 3-0 GAC) took game one on Sunday 4-1.
After being held to just one unearned run in the first two games of the series, the Tiger offense exploded for nine runs off 16 hits in the series finale. However, after heading to an extra inning with the score tied at 7-7, the Bison struck for four runs in the top of the eighth. Ouachita rallied for two in the bottom half of the inning, but left the potential go-ahead run on base.
In game three,
Heather Brown and
Callie Jourdan each had three hits.
Hope Waid,
Jillian Jones,
Lauren Lester,
Erin Williams, and
Kyndal Moyer all had two hits. Waid, Jourdan, and Jones all tied for the team in runs batted in with two each.
The Tigers had season-highs in hits (16) and at bats (42) in the series finale.
In Monday's first game, the Tigers struck out a season-high 12 times and were held scoreless by Bison pitcher Aspen Younce in a complete-game shutout.
Hope Waid led Ouachita in the game with a 2-for-4 hitting performance.
Ouachita's non-conference road double header against Mississippi College, originally scheduled for March 1, has been postponed to an undetermined date. Next up on the schedule is a three-game GAC series against Harding at home this upcoming weekend, March 4-5.
