Game Recap: Baseball |

TIGERS FALL IN SEASON OPENER

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team opened the 2022 season on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to Henderson State and a 1-0 loss to Northwest Missouri State. Both games were played at HSU's Clyde Berry Field.

In Saturday's opener, the Reddies plated one run in each of the second and fourth innings, while placing a two spot on the board in the seventh.

Ouachita matched HSU in total hits with four, two coming from freshman Isaac Nowell in the leadoff spot. Dustin Bermudez and Tallon Heine were responsible for the other two Tiger hits.

Ouachita starter Hunter Gautreaux had a good outing, despite the loss, with a final line of five innings pitched, three hits given up, two runs (one earned), and seven strikeouts.

In the loss to Northwest Missouri, the lone run came in the second inning, when the Bearcats leadoff the inning with a double, followed by a single to drive in what ended up being the game-deciding run.

The Tigers again had four hits in the game, one each for Nowell, G. Allen, Noah Bachman, and Heine.

Beau Burson and Garret Hermes each had good outings for the Tigers on the mound. Burson gave up one run off three hits with four strikeouts in the first four innings. Hermes tossed five scoreless innings, striking out eight Bearcat batters.

Ouachita takes Sunday off before taking on Rogers State on Monday at 3 p.m. in Hot Springs at Majestic Park.
