HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team recorded its first win of the 2022 season on Monday, taking down Rogers State 10-7 at Majestic Park in the final game of the Dugan Collegiate Baseball Invitational.
Five Tigers recorded two hits in the win over the Hillcats, led by
Jaxon Chaney's 2-for-2 performance with three runs batted in and two walks. Others that had two hits included
G. Allen,
Cade Burris,
Wyatt Core, and
Jud Arrington.
Both teams plated runs in the first inning, RSU with one and Ouachita with two on an RBI single from Burris and a sacrifice fly by Chaney.
The same scoring pattern happened in the third with Ouachita going up 4-2 on a fielder's choice RBI from
Tucker Anderson and an RBI single by Arrington.
The Tigers had their first of two three-run innings in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-2 lead.
Zach Kuykendall had an RBI single, and
Tallon Heine later drove in two runs on a triple in the right-center gap.
The Hillcats scored the next four, three in the seventh and one in the eighth, to trim the Tiger lead down to just one heading into the bottom of the eighth.
The Ouachita offense responded with three more runs in the eighth on a two-run single by Chaney and another another run off an RSU error.
The Hillcats finalized the scoring with one run in the top of the ninth.
Cameron Marchant picked up the win for Ouachita, giving up two runs (one earned) off just two hits with five strikeouts in the first four innings.
The Tigers begin a nine-game homestand on Thursday against Missouri Western State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Rab Rogers Field.
