ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team picked up its second midweek victory over Christian Brothers this season with a 5-3 win on Wednesday at home. The Tigers beat CBU last Tuesday 11-4 in Memphis.
All but one of the game's runs came in the first three innings with CBU (6-14) scoring one in the and one in the third, while Ouachita (14-8) plated three in the second and two in the third. The Bucs pitchers combined to keep Ouachita out of scoring position in the final five innings, while only giving up one hit during that span.
Ouachita's scoring in the second came on an RBI singles by
Jaxon Chaney and
Noah Bachman, and an RBI sacrifice fly by
Dustin Bermudez. In the third,
Wyatt Core blasted a two-run homerun, his second of the season.
The Tigers had seven hits in the win spread out to Bermudez, Core, Bachman, Chaney,
G. Allen,
CW Schrader, and
Jud Arrington, all with one hit each.
Tiger pitchers
Luke House,
Hayden Childers,
Jacob Bowman, and
Hunter Gautreaux combined to allow three runs (two earned) off six hits with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Childers earned the win, moving to 2-0. Gautreaux picked up his first save of the season after giving up just one run and one hit in the final three innings
Up next for the Tigers is a three-game Great American Conference series at home this weekend at Southwestern Oklahoma State. The series schedule has been adjusted to a single-game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a double header on Saturday starting at noon.
