ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team split a pair of Great American Conference road games on Friday with Northwestern Oklahoma State, winning the first game 8-1 and losing the nightcap 8-4.
Cooper Timmons highlighted the win in the opener with a complete-game victory on the mound with 11 strikeouts and no walks
The majority of Ouachita's scoring in the opener came in one inning, plating six runs in the top of the second off of just one hit, which was a two-run double by G. Allen. The Tigers had seven batters reach base via walk in the inning. There were three bases-loaded walks and an RBI groundout in addition to Allen's double.
Ouachita went up 7-0 in the third on a squeeze bunt by Noah Bachman.
The final run came in the top of the eighth, when the Tigers again took advantage of wild pitching with three walks and two wild pitches.
Both teams had seven hits in the first game. Allen finished 3-for-5 with two RBI. Cade Burris went 2-for-2. Bachman had two RBI in the game on a 0-for-2 outing.
In the nightcap, NWOSU rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn a come-from-behind win over the Tigers. Ouachita had gone up 4-0 with three runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run homerun by G. Allen, and one run in the fourth.
Jaxon Chaney led Ouachita in game two with a 3-for-4 outing.
The rubber match is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. in Alva.
