ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team recorded its 15th game of the season with at double-digit hits and its 12th game of the year with double-digit runs to knock off Delta State at home on Tuesday by a final score of 10-5.
Ouachita (18-11) jumped out to a quick lead with two runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run, inside-the-park homerun by
G. Allen, his team-high eighth round-tripper of the season. His homer carried the DSU left fielder all the way to the wall in left field and caromed off the wall to allow Allen to make it all the way around the bases.
The Statesmen (16-9) kept the Tigers scoreless in the third and fourth innings, which left Ouachita with a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Just like the scoring in the first and second innings, Ouachita struck again with two outs in the fifth on a pinch-hit, two-run single by
Wyatt Core.
Allen continued his productive day in the sixth with an RBI single, followed later in the inning by an RBI single from Issac Nowell to put the Tigers up 9-2. Ouachita's final run came on an RBI single from
Tallon Heine in the eighth on the ninth pitch of his at bat.
Five Tiger pitchers combined for the win, led by starter
Beau Burson (3-2), who earned the win after giving up just one run off two hits in the first three innings.
Hunter Gautreaux threw three quality relief innings, giving up just one run on four hits.
Hayden Childers and
Dustin Bermudez held the Ouachita lead giving up just one run in the final two innings.
The Tigers are back to Great American Conference play this weekend on the road against Arkansas Tech.
