ARKADELPHIA – After Ouachita Baptist University's
G. Allen hit a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning, Henderson State rallied for four runs in the ninth to beat the Tigers 9-6 on Tuesday at Rab Rodgers Field.
It was the second of five scheduled matchups between the Tigers (24-18) and Reddies (30-12). The two squads are set to meet in a three-game GAC series the last weekend in April across the street at Clyde Berry Field.
Allen's grand slam was his team-leading 11th homerun of the season. It put his team up 6-5 heading into the ninth.
Ouachita opened the scoring in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk by
Jaxon Chaney. HSU responded by taking advantage of two Ouachita errors to score three unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead.
The Tigers pulled it to within one in the sixth on an RBI double by
CW Schrader, and the Reddies again responded with one run in the seventh and another in the eighth to take a 5-2 lead. HSU hit a pair of two-run homeruns in the ninth for the final runs of the game.
The Tigers are back in action this weekend at home, hosting East Central for a three-game GAC series. The Tigers will honor their seniors prior to the start of Saturday's double header.
