ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team hit three homeruns, including a walk-off homerun by
Cade Burris in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Arkansas-Monticello 15-5 at home on Friday.
Ouachita (22-13, 14-8 GAC) scored in every inning except for the sixth in Friday's win, including multi-run innings in the first, third, fourth, and fifth.
Wyatt Core started Friday's homerun derby with a three-run blast to left field in the bottom of the first. It was his sixth homer of the year.
The Tigers went up 4-0 in the second on a rare sacrifice fly to an infielder when
Tallon Heine's pop fly was caught by the UAM first baseman just deep enough into right field to score
Isaac Nowell from third.
Ouachita took advantage of a pair of UAM errors in the third inning to plate four runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Heine.
The offense stayed hot in the fourth and fifth innings with three runs in each frame, highlighted by a solo homerun by
Jaxon Chaney in the fifth, his fourth homer of the year.
Burris, the leadoff man in the seventh, sent a 1-1 breaking pitch over the fence in left center to end the game early. It was his fourth round-tripper of the season.
Burris' game-winner was Ouachita's 10th hit of the game to give the Tigers their fifth straight double-digit hit performance.
Cooper Timmons (5-3) earned the win, giving up four runs in the first five innings.
Carter Wade and
Hayden Childers combined to hold UAM (15-17, 10-12 GAC) to just one run on one hit in the final two innings.
Games two and three of the series are set for Saturday starting at noon at Rab Rodgers Field.
