HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team rallied to put the potential go-ahead run at the plate in the top of the ninth, but ended up dropping its Great American Conference Championship Tournament semifinals matchup to Henderson State on Monday night by a final score of 7-5.
Down 7-1 heading into the final three frames, the Tigers (32-22) rallied for one in the seventh, taking advantage of a Reddies error, and then pushed across three more in the eighth to make it a two-run game. All three runs in the eighth came on bases-loaded walks.
The Reddies (38-14) put a pair of crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the early frames with two in the first and three in the third to build a quick lead. Meanwhile, HSU starting pitcher Austin Cross (3-3) threw up zeros for the first five innings.
After tying the GAC tournament record for hits in a game with 23 earlier on Monday, the Tigers were limited to just six against the Reddies. Dustin Bermudez and Jud Arrington both went 2-for-4.
