HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team moved to 6-0 against Harding this season by tying a Great American Conference Championship Tournament record with 23 hits in a 17-3 win over the Bisons on Monday at Majestic Park.
With the win, the Tigers (32-21) advance into the semifinals of the tournament, which will be played Monday night against cross street rival Henderson State. First pitch was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but the tournament is behind schedule. The game will start 40 minutes after the conclusion of the semifinal matchup between Arkansas Tech and Southern Arkansas.
The 23 hits are Ouachita's highest single-game total since the 2011 Tigers tallied 22 in a 23-9 win over Trevecca Nazarene.
Just as impressive as Ouachita's offensive onslaught,
Garret Hermes (3-2) saved the Ouachita bullpen for the remainder of the tournament by tossing a complete-game against the Bisons (32-19), giving up just two earned runs in his nine innings of work on the mound.
