EDMOND, Oklahoma – Phil Exner and
Alex Blanchar made the semifinals of the doubles bracket to highlight the Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis performance at the ITA Regionals over the weekend in central Oklahoma.
The top-seeded doubles team at the event earned an 8-5 win in the first round over a duo from Emporia State, followed by an 8-4 win over a team from Southern Arkansas, and an 8-6 win over a team from Northwest Missouri State. Their run ended in the semifinals with an 8-1 loss to a pair from Washburn.
Matias Parzajuk and
Aaron Osmond advanced to the quarterfinals in doubles with an 8-2 win in the opening round over a team from Harding, followed by an 8-4 win in the round of 16 before falling 8-4 in the quarters to a team from Northwest Missouri.
Exner also highlighted Ouachita's singles play at the event, advancing to the semifinals round. He started with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Washburn's Noah Neideck in the opening round. In the second round, Exner needed a 10-3 tiebreaker to earn the win over Diego Orduz from Southeastern Oklahoma State after splitting the first two sets 6-2 and 4-6. In the round of 16, Exner got past Northwest Missouri's Fabien Calloud 6-2 and 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals, where he beat Southeastern's Marin Jurkovic 6-1 and 6-4. His run ended in the semis with a 6-3, 7-5 loss to Harding's Dani Ortiz.
Alex Blanchar earned an opening round win in singles, and
Seth Hernandez got a win in the consolation bracket.
The Tigers continue their fall schedule with the Midwestern Collegiate Invitational October 14-15 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
