ROME, Georgia – Four men's tennis players represented Ouachita well this past weekend in Rome, Georgia at the ITA Cup.
The Tigers performed best in doubles with both Ouachita teams advancing to the semifinals.
In the opening round, second-seeded
Phil Exner and
Alex Blanchar beat a duo from Columbus State 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2, while
Fernando Docters and
Ramon Strassmann needed a tie-breaker to beat a duo from Lander by scores of 2-6, 6-3, and 13-11.
Docters and Strassmann took down a duo from UT-Permian Basin in the quarterfinals by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. In the semis, Harding's Cas De Ruiter and Teodor Zlatar came out on top 7-6 (7-5) and 6-3.
Exner and Blanchar beat a duo from Ferris State in the quarterfinals by scores of 7-6 (7-4) and 6-3. In the semis, eventual doubles champion Tim Hammes and Santiago Rendon from Washburn won by scores of 6-4 and 6-4.
In singles, top-seeded Exner lost in first round 6-3 and 6-3 to Barry's Adam Lynch, and then picked up a win in the consolation bracket 7-5 and 6-2 over Midwestern State's Luis Diaz Argente. In the semis of the consolation bracket, Point Loma Nazarene's Alexander Leischner beat Exner 6-3 and 6-2.
Ouachita wraps up the fall portion of the 2023-24 schedule this weekend in Russellville at the Great American Conference Fall Championships.
