ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team opened Great American Conference play on Friday at home with a 6-1 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
The Tigers (5-2, 1-0 GAC) opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the first inning, but were then held scoreless until a two-run bunt in the sixth put Ouachita up 3-0. With runners on second and third,

Dustin Bermudez from third just before
Tallon Heine made it all the way home from second base while the Ranger fielders were attempting to get the out at first base.
Ouachita added its final three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, two on a homerun by
G. Allen and another off a NWOSU (5-4, 0-1 GAC) error.
Starting pitcher
Cooper Timmons (1-1) threw up six straight zeros to start the game. He worked around a jam in the seventh to give up just one run. After allowing the leadoff batter to reach in the eighth, he was relieved by
Cameron Marchant, who threw two scoreless innings to close out the game. Timmons ended up tying his career high in strikeouts with 11, last accomplished against NWOSU in 2022.
Ouachita recorded its fifth consecutive game with double-digit hits with a total of 10 on Friday.
G. Allen and
Michael Quinones each had three hits in the win.
Wyatt Core had two.
Games two and three of the series are set for Saturday starting at noon at Rab Rodgers Field.
