ARKADELPHIA – The 13th-ranked Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday at home in a 4-1 setback to the University of West Alabama.
The two squads played NCAA championship scoring rules with the first team to four points earning the team win. West Alabama (2-2) started by earning the doubles point with wins in second and third positions.
Phil Exner and
Alex Blanchar were locked up in a tight battle with the second-ranked doubles team in the nation in first position when the doubles point was decided.
In singles, UWA started with a quick win in third position evened up by a second position win from
Alex Blanchar to make it 2-1. The rally ended there with UWA earning wins in fourth and first positions to seal the upset.
Ouachita is back in action on Saturday at home against Mississippi College. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
