TIGERS FALL TO JENNIES IN DOUBLE HEADER

ARAKDELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team dropped both of its games in a double header against the University of Central Missouri Saturday afternoon at Sully Anderson Field.

Game One: UCM 3, Ouachita 0

In a game that could only be described as a pitcher's duel, Ouachita was unable to put a runner across the plate. The game began with starting pitcher Maggi Huddleston and UCM's starter trading blanks on the scoreboard for four innings. Huddleston did not allow a hit to the Jennies until the top of the fourth inning. The Tigers didn't get their first hit until the bottom of the third with a slap single down the left field line from Kellen Church.

Central Missouri broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning as the Jennies plated two runs on a bunt and a sacrifice fly. UCM plated another run in the top of the seventh to make it a 3-0 ballgame. The Tigers had a few baserunners between the fifth and seventh innings but couldn't string together enough hits to bring them around to home.

Game Two: UCM 7, Ouachita 2

The second game of the afternoon saw both teams score and it was Central Missouri who struck first, scoring two on a pair of errors in the top of the first inning. Ouachita answered back in the third inning when Katelyn Provence scored Jessalyn Ahrens on an RBI groundout to make it just a 2-1 game. Both teams exchanged scoreless fourth innings, but UCM opened up in the fifth. The Jennies scored three runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. The Tigers were able to get a run back on another Provence RBI groundout that scored Kellen Church, but this would be the last run of the day for Ouachita. UCM plated two more runs in the sixth and both teams went scoreless in the seventh to bring about the final score of 7-2 in favor of the Jennies.
  • Williams, Callie Jourdan, Ahrens, and Church each had a hit in the game, with Church and Ahrens scoring the two runs.
  • Katelyn Provence had the two RBI for the Tigers.
  • The Tigers used a total of three pitchers in the game, but the loss went to Hannah Hunter in the circle.

The Tigers will look to bounce back next weekend in the Great American Conference opener against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State at Sully Anderson field on Friday, February 24.
