ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team opened the second week of competition of the 2023 season on Thursday night with a 10-6 loss to Missouri Western State University.
The game was played at Henderson State University's Clyde Berry Field due to unplayable field conditions at Ouachita's Rab Rodgers Field.
Both teams reached double-digits in the hit column in Thursday night's contest, but it was the Griffons (1-0) who took advantage of a four-run fourth inning to take the lead away from the Tigers (2-2).
Ouachita came within two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but was held scoreless the rest of the way. The Tigers rallied to get runners on base in the ninth before MWSU relief pitcher Robert Farrell came in to strike out back-to-back Ouachita batters to end the rally.
The Tigers had eight players account for the team's 10 hits.
Michael Quinones and
CW Schrader were the two Tigers to post two hits in the game.
Jaxon Chaney had two RBI in the game, both coming on a double in the bottom of the first as a part of Ouachita's three-run inning.
Weather permitting, the Tigers will be back at home at Rab Rodgers Field on Friday to host Newman University for a scheduled 2 p.m. start.
