RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team fell to the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech Friday evening in both games of the day's double header.
Game One: Arkansas Tech 10, Ouachita 0
The first game of the day started with
Hope Waid doubling to left field in the leadoff spot, but Waid ended up getting stranded at second base. Tech was held scoreless in the bottom of the first inning despite having runners in scoring position.
Callie Jourdan led off the top of the second with a single, but was left at second base by the end of the half inning.
Arkansas Tech struck first in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Tigers managed two more baserunners in the top of the third but could not bring them around and the Golden Suns plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-0 lead heading into the fourth. Ouachita recorded another hit on a
Heather Brown double, but she too was left on the bases. Tech put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up by 10 runs. Ouachita was held scoreless in the fifth as well and Arkansas Tech won game one by a score of 10-0 in five innings.
- Heather Brown had a pinch-hit double in her first game back since injuring her knee back on February 11.
- The Tigers' starter, Maggi Huddleston pitched 3.2 innings and took the loss for the game.
Game Two: Arkansas Tech 6, Ouachita 2
Game two started with the Tigers striking first as
Maggi Huddleston scored
Heather Brown on an RBI double followed by
Erin Williams scoring on error on a ball hit by
Madyson Shoebottom to jump out a 2-0 lead after the first half inning. Ouachita held the Suns scoreless in the first, but Tech was able to tie things up in the second inning. Arkansas Tech took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to go up 6-2. Both teams were held scoreless for the remaining four innings of play and Tech went on to win by four runs.
The Tigers will look to bounce back and avoid a sweep in game three tomorrow at noon in Russellville.
