ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University baseball team won the third and final game of its Great American Conference series against Arkansas Tech University on Sunday, winning by a final score of 15-8.
The game was played at Henderson State University's Clyde Berry Field due to unplayable field conditions from rain at Rab Rodgers Field.
Game three once again featured early offense with the Wonder Boys (16-7, 9-3 GAC) scoring two in the top of the first with the Tigers (12-7, 7-5 GAC) answering back in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own.
Ouachita then scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead. The early Ouachita lead proved to be too much for Tech to handle throughout the game. The Wonder Boys chipped away throughout the rest of the nine-inning affair but the early onslaught of Tiger runs proved to be too big of a hill.
The Tigers added another five-run inning in the seventh to come within one run of winning by mercy rule. Tech finalized the scoring with two runs in the top of the ninth.
With Sunday's win, Ouachita hands Tech its first series loss of the season and earned their third series win of the year in the process.
Jaxon Chaney had a big day for the Tigers going 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBI, finishing a double away from hitting for the cycle. His big hits of the game included a two-run triple and a solo homerun which was his fourth round-tripper of the season.
G. Allen,
Dustin Bermudez,
Kieran Theriot, and
CW Schrader all had two hits in the win.
For the ninth time this season, Ouachita turned in double digits in the hit category with 15, and reached double digits in runs for the fifth time.
Cameron Marchant (1-1) earned his first win of the season, this time coming in relief. He pitched the middle 2.1 innings giving up just one earned run on four hits.
Dustin Bermudez earned a 3.2-inning save, giving up just two runs on three hits in the final frames.
Ouachita is back in action on Tuesday at home in a non-conference game against Southern Arkansas.
