TIGERS DROP DOUBLE HEADER TO REDDIES

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team dropped both games of the Battle of the Ravine double header to rival Henderson State across the street.

Game One: HSU 6, Ouachita 2

The first game of the series started off close. Ouachita got on the board first as Erin Williams scored Hope Waid on an RBI single in the top of the first. Henderson answered back with a run of its own in the bottom of the first to tie things up. The second inning saw both teams held scoreless with a strikeout. Three singles and a fielder's choice in the third broke the 1-1 tie. Madyson Shoebottom hit an RBI single that scored Katelyn Provence to make it 2-1 Tigers.

After holding HSU scoreless in the bottom of the third, both Tigers and Reddies put up blanks in the fourth inning. But Henderson opened the floodgates in the fifth, scoring five runs to take a 6-5 lead heading into the sixth. The Tigers forced the Reddies to go down in order in the sixth inning, but the Reddies responded by sitting the Tigers down in order in the top of the seventh inning, giving Henderson the win in game one by a score of 6-2. an

Game Two: HSU 6, Ouachita 3

The second day started out with both pitcher's dueling it out. There were no runs and only five hits combined through the first three and a half innings of play. Henderson finally scored first, plating two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Tigers responded the next inning, scoring two runs of their own. The first run came on a Jessalyn Ahrens RBI double that scored Lacy Ornelas. The next run came on a Hope Waid RBI groundout that brought Maggi Huddleston home to tie the game 2-2.

The Tigers and Reddies traded scoreless half innings before Henderson opened the gates for the second time. A four-run sixth inning put HSU up 6-2 heading into the seventh inning. In the seventh, Ouachita got one run back as Kodee Batchelor came home on an error after an Ahrens single to cut the Reddies' lead to three runs, but that was it for the Tigers, and Henderson won game two 6-3.

The third game of this rivalry series will be played on Ouachita's side of the street at Sully Anderson Field next month on Tuesday, April 11.

Ouachita will look to bounce back as East Central University comes to town for a three game, GAC series starting Friday, March 17 at Sully Andersonfield.
