DURANT, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team dropped the third game of the series to Southeastern Oklahoma State University by a score of 4-1 on the road Sunday afternoon.
Game three of the series began with Ouachita loading the bases with one out.
Hope Waid singled to lead things off,
Erin Williams walked, and
Madyson Shoebottom singled to shortstop to load up the bases with just one out in the inning, but the three Tigers were left stranded after back-to-back outs to be held scoreless. The Tiger defense forced the now first-place Savage Storm down in order to make it a 0-0 tie going into the second inning. Southeastern scored first with two runs in the second inning and added another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead heading into the fourth.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, and the Tigers were finally able to get on the board in the top of the sixth. The Tigers' lone run came on a solo homer from
Erin Williams, her sixth of the season, to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Storm. SOSU answered back in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead back out to 3 runs. Ouachita went down in order in the bottom of the seventh to give Southeastern the 4-1 win.
- Erin Williams went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored, a home run and a walk.
- Hope Waid went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Madyson Shoebottom went 1-for-3 at the plate.
- Tuesday Melton pitched her 13th complete game, striking out three and walking none while giving up three earned runs in the loss.
The Tigers will look to get back on track as they host Delta State on Tuesday, March 28 in a double header at Sully Anderson Field.
