TIGERS FALL ON SENIOR DAY

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team dropped its double header to the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Sully Anderson Field.

Ouachita honored its five seniors prior to today's games, they are Heather Brown, Rebecca Holiman, Callie Jourdan, Lacy Ornelas and Hope Waid. All of whom have contributed greatly to the program over their time as Tigers.

Game One: SNU 7, Ouachita 1

The first game of the Great American Conference Series saw a slow start for the Tigers. SNU was able to plate one run in the top of the first to take an early lead. Ouachita saw its first hit and baserunner come in the bottom of the third inning when Tiffany Backeberg doubled to left field. Backeberg made it to third on a wild pitch but was left stranded there. Southern Nazarene scored two runs in the top of the fifth and another in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The Tigers were able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth without the help of a hit. Rebecca Holiman led off with a walk, Jessalyn Ahrens then walked too. Hope Waid was hit by a pitch twice in the same plate appearance to load the bases with no one out. Then with one out, Kalia Kekahuna-Fernandez hit an RBI groundout that scored Holiman from third to break up the shutout. This was it for the Tigers offensively, and the Storm added three runs in the seventh inning to win game one by a score of 7-1.

Game Two: SNU 4, Ouachita 0

Game two of the Saturday double header saw another slow start for the Tigers. Southern Nazarene again took an early lead by scoring a run in the first. The Tigers had one baserunner in the first inning as Katelyn Provence worked a two-out walk. SNU scored a second run in the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead.

The Tigers recorded their first hit in the fourth inning as Provence doubled to left center, but that was all the action in the bottom of the fourth. The Storm plated one run in the top of the sixth to push their lead to three runs. Ouachita put another runner in scoring position after a pair of singles from Heather Brown and Provence, but two outs followed to end the rally there. SNU added a fourth and final run in the seventh inning to lead by four. That would be the final run of the game as well, as Southern Nazarene held on to win 4-0 in game two.

The Tigers will look to bounce back in the series finale tomorrow, Sunday, April 23 at Sully Anderson Field with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
