ALVA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team wrapped up the 2023 season, dropping the final game of the series to the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers by a score of 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Oklahoma.
The Tigers started the game like they had the previous two, by jumping out to an early lead. In the top of the first,
Erin Williams drew a two-out walk. Williams was moved to second as
Maggi Huddleston drew a walk in the next plate appearance.
Callie Jourdan then reached on an error, that error by the NWOSU second baseman allowed Williams to come home and give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers held that one-run lead over the next four innings, holding NWOSU to just three hits. But the Rangers' offense woke up in the fifth, as they scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead over the Tigers. Ouachita managed a baserunner in the sixth and seventh innings, but they were left on the bases and NWOSU took game three by the score of 4-1.
Ouachita finishes the 2023 season with a 13-37 overall record. The Tigers won one Great American Conference series on the season, the first of the year against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Highlights of the season include a shutout victory over cross-street rival Henderson State, run-rule walk-off wins against East Central and Southern Nazarene and defeating Arkansas Tech for the first time since 2018.
Ouachita softball will graduate five seniors this May,
Heather Brown,
Rebecca Holiman,
Callie Jourdan,
Lacy Ornelas, and
Hope Waid. Waid finishes her career tied for second in career triples in program history with five.
