TIGERS WIN GAC TOURNAMENT TITLE IN PK SHOOTOUT

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's soccer team won its second straight Great American Conference Championship Tournament with a victory over Oklahoma Baptist University in a penalty kick shootout on Sunday at Kluck Field.

With the score remaining 0-0 after two halves and two 10-minute overtime periods, the Tigers (8-7-4) won the PK shootout 4-3 with a save from Carina Chavarria clinching the victory.

With the shootout win, Ouachita defends its GAC tournament championship from 2023, when the Tigers beat Oklahoma Baptist 2-0 in the finals on the Bison's home turf in Shawnee. Ouachita is now a four-time GAC tournament champion. The Tigers also won their first regular season GAC championship this season.

The Tigers claim the GAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament and will learn their destination during the selection show on Monday at 6 p.m. on www.NCAA.com. Ouachita is making its third NCAA tournament appearance in program history, also making the field in 2007 and 2023.

Sunday's game featured 23 total shots for the Bison (6-6-7) and 19 for the Tigers. OKB led 10-9 in shots on frame. Ouachita led 10-5 in corner kicks.

Madi Vana, Abbey Moore, McKenna Wright, and Ava Dunagan all made penalty kicks in the shootout for the Tigers. Chavarria made two saves in the shootout with fresh legs after coming off the bench. Taylor Hapgood played all 110 minutes of regulation and both overtimes in between the posts and collected a career-high nine saves in her second shutout of the year.

In addition to receiving the tournament championship trophy after the game, the Tigers also earned five spots on the 2024 GAC All-Tournament Team, highlighted by Teagan Jaussi earning GAC tournament MVP honors. Other selections for the Tigers included Sophia Valencia, Abbey Moore, Allison Reece, and Madi Vana.
