PIEDMONT, Oklahoma – The Ouachita softball team closed out the Raising Cane's Softball Festival with a 6-3 loss to the Missouri Southern State Lions on Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma.
Ouachita opened the game well, getting a couple of baserunners on in the top of the first inning and holding (RV) Missouri Southern scoreless in the bottom half of the first. The Tigers again put runners in scoring position in the next inning, but the Lions struck first with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second. MSSU added two more runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead over Ouachita.
Emma Scales ended the shutout bid by leading off the fourth inning with a solo home run to center field to get the Tigers on the board.
Katelyn Provence led off the top of the fifth with a double and was brought home three batters later on an RBI single from
Remington Adams to cut the Lions' lead to 5-2. Ouachita held MSSU scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, but the Lions added a run in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-2.
Provence led of the seventh with a walk and
Erin Williams followed with a single to center field. Adams then hit her second RBI single of the day down the left field line to score Provence from second. But that was all for Ouachita and the Tigers fell by the score of 6-3.
The Tigers went even with the Lions in hits as both teams recorded nine in the game.
Adams went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a walk.
Emma Scales also went 2-for-3 but with a home run, an RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
Erin Williams went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Hannah Hunter got the start in the circle, pitched two innings and earned the loss.
Kodee Batchelor pitched four innings in relief allowing four hits and just one earned run while striking out three.
The Tigers will look to bounce back on Tuesday, February 20 as they host the Eagles of Williams Baptist University in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
