ARKADELPHIA – G. Allen hit two homeruns,
Luke House turned in a quality start, and
Dustin Bermudez earned a five-out save to lead Ouachita to a 6-5 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday at home to win the weekend series two games to one.
The Bulldogs (10-6, 2-4 GAC) used solo homeruns in each of the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead, but the Tigers (6-6, 3-3 GAC) scored at least one run in each of the next five innings to build 6-2 lead heading into the eighth.
The sixth run for Ouachita came across in the form of
Dustin Bermudez scoring on a wild pitch in the seventh, which proved to be significant as SWOSU rallied for two runs in the top of the eighth and added another in the ninth to make in a one-run game. Bermudez, who came to the mound in the eighth inning from his starting shortstop position, got the Tigers out of a jam in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.
G. Allen went 3-for-4 with two solo homeruns and a single.
Wesley Scott had a solo homerun in the win, this time from the right-handed batter's box. He homered as a lefty on Friday.
Tallon Heine went 1-for-5 with an RBI.
Collin Liles was responsible for Ouachita's other run after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
After allowing homeruns in the first two innings,
Luke House settled in to put four consecutive zeros on the board, finishing his first win of the year with two runs allowed on three hits with three strikeouts in six innings of work.
The Tigers continue their current eight-game homestand this Tuesday, February 27 in a non-conference game against Delta State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
