TYLER, Texas – In the most tightly contested match of the season so far, No. 12 Texas-Tyler defended its home court with a 4-2 win over No. 23 Ouachita on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (3-2) started out winning the doubles points with 6-4 wins in both first and second positions, respectively.
Phil Exner and
Alex Blanchar, ranked fourth nationally in doubles, won in first position, while teammates
Fernando Docters and Ramon Strassman, ranked third nationally, took down their respective opponents in second position.
Elias Lagger and
Aaron Osmond were down 4-5 when the doubles point was decided.
The Patriots (3-1) took a 3-2 lead in singles with wins in fourth, fifth, and sixth positions, while Docters earned a hard-fought point in third position 7-5 and 6-3.
With all attention on courts one and two, both Blanchar and Exner took their respective opponents to a third set tiebreaker. UT-Tyler's Joaquin Bianchi was the first to come away with a win to give his team the overall win. Exner was locked 2-2 with a 30-15 lead when the match was decided.
The Tigers will look to bounce back on Sunday in a neutral site matchup against St. Mary's in Tyler. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
