BATS COME ALIVE IN BIG WIN OVER NO. 7 SAU

MAGNOLIA, Arkansas – The Ouachita baseball team blasted five homeruns and turned in a season-high in hits to beat seventh-ranked Southern Arkansas in non-conference action on Tuesday night by a final score of 13-6.

The Tigers (11-10) scored their 13 runs on 16 hits, seven going for extra bases. Cade Burris and Isaac Nowell both hit two homeruns in the win. Dustin Bermudez also homered in the contest.

The scoring started with two runs in the first inning and then one run in each of the second, third, and fourth innings to put the Tigers up 5-4 as the Muleriders (16-6) responded along the way.

Burris' homeruns came via the solo variety in the second and fourth innings. They were his first two round-trippers of the season.

Ouachita went up 6-4 in the sixth inning on Nowell's first round-tripper of the day. He added a three-run blast in Ouachita's five-run seventh inning that also featured a solo homerun from Bermudez. Nowell and Bermudez both now have four homeruns this season.

The Tigers scratched across two more runs in the final two innings with RBI singles from Wesley Scott and Tallon Heine.

Burris and G. Allen each had three hits in the win. Bermudez, Scott, Quinones, and Nowell all had two hits each.

Ouachita used just two pitchers in the win. Freshman Kyzer Smith earned his first collegiate win after giving up four runs off three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in the first 6.1 innings. Cameron Marchant came on in relief in the seventh and finished the game allowing two runs off five hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday at home in a non-conference game against Texas A&M-Texarkana. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Rab Rodgers Field.
