NO. 10 CHOCTAWS TAKE TWO FROM TIGERS

CLINTON, Mississippi – The Ouachita softball team dropped its midweek doubleheader to the No.10 Choctaws of Mississippi College Tuesday evening.
 
Game One: Mississippi College 11, Ouachita 0
 
In the first game of the doubleheader, Bailey King singled in the top of the first for Ouachita's first hit of the afternoon but was left stranded on second base. Mississippi College started off hot and scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. Marli Huddleston singled to lead off the second inning, but she too was left at second. Both teams posted scoreless second innings, but the top 10 Choctaws recorded a six-run third inning to extend their lead. Another two runs in the bottom of the fourth brought about the final score and the Tigers fell 11-0 in five innings.
 
King, Marli Huddleston, and Jordyn Merrett were the three Tigers to record hits in the game.
Hannah Hunter was the starting pitcher and earned the loss.
 
 
Game Two: MC 20, Ouachita 4
 
In the second game of the evening, Erin Williams and Remington Adams both hit two-out singles in the first frame but were left on the bases. Mississippi College plated with five runs in the bottom of the first. The No.10 Choctaws added five runs in the second and six runs in the third inning to take a 16-0 lead.
 
The Tiger offense got things going in the fourth inning when after a walk, a fielder's choice, and a Lauren Lester double, Emily Reed scored on an error by the Choctaw short stop to get Ouachita on the board. Another error scored Kennedy Wilkie and Mackenzie Amaya for the Tigers' second and third runs of the game. MC answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 20-3. Williams led off the top of the fifth with a double and was then scored on an RBI single from Remington Adams. Adams was left on the bases and the Tigers fell by the final score of 20-4.
 
Adams went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Williams went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Wilkie went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Karley Burrow got the start in the circle and earned the loss.
 
The Tigers will look to bounce back this weekend as they host the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech University in a three-game GAC series beginning Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
