KANSAS CITY, Missouri – For the second time this season, Ouachita men's tennis senior
Alex Blanchar has been selected as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association/Great American Conference South Division Athlete of the Week.
Blanchar earned what is arguably his best win of the spring this past week in a victory over then-ranked No. 10 Tim Hammes of Washburn in first position singles by convincing scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
A day later, Blanchar was on his way to another first-position win, up 7-5 and 4-3 over 37th-ranked Ugnius Bickauskis of William Jewell when the match was decided.
In doubles, Blanchar and teammate
Phil Exner lost to Washburn's Matthew Earle/Tim Hammes, ranked 39th, 6-3 in first position, and were up 4-3 on their William Jewell counterparts the next day when the point was decided.
Blanchar and the 25th-ranked Tigers (11-5) are back in action next Tuesday, April 16 at home in a conference matchup against in-state rival Harding. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
