ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita softball team dropped its Thursday evening game to the Reddies of Henderson State University by the score of 3-1 at Dee White Field.
Ouachita dropped the season series 1-2 to the Reddies with today's game being the rubber match after the Tigers split the GAC doubleheader back in March for games one and two of the series.
The midweek conference contest started with
Lauren Lester doubling in the top of the first and the Ouachita defense forcing the Reddies to go three-up-three-down in the bottom half of the first. Henderson got on the board first in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Both teams posted scoreless third frames.
Erin Williams tied the game up with a solo home run to right center to lead off the fourth inning. The Reddies answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame to take a 2-1 lead. HSU added another run in the fifth to increase the lead to two. Ouachita got the tying run on base but could not bring them around and the Tigers fell by the final score of 3-1.
Katelyn Provence went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk. Provence was the only Tiger to record multiple hits in the game.
Hannah Hunter got the start in the circle and struck out two in 4.1 innings of work but earned the loss.
Tuesday Melton pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, giving up just two hits and striking out one.
The Tigers will look to get back on track as they take on the first-place Bison of Oklahoma Baptist in a three-game GAC series that opens tomorrow, Friday, April 12 at 8 p.m. at HSU's Dee White Field.
