ARKADELPHIA – Cade Burris came through with a clutch single in the bottom of the eighth inning to drive in the go-ahead run and
Dustin Bermudez tossed a scoreless ninth to preserve a 6-5 win for the Ouachita baseball team over Southern Nazarene on Monday to finish off a three-game sweep.
SNU (12-34, 6-24 GAC) struck first with one run in the second inning before the Tigers (26-18, 18-12 GAC) took advantage of an error to score three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
The Crimson Storm made it a one-run game in the fifth inning before regaining the lead on a three-run home run in the sixth. Ouachita rallied for two runs in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5 on an RBI double from Heine and an RBI single from
Joseph Bolin.
The Tigers rallied again in the eighth, this time with two outs.
G. Allen drew a walk, and
Michael Quinones followed with a single to move Allen to third base to set the stage for Burris' single to left to drive in Allen for what ended up being the game-winning run.
Ouachita finished with 10 hits for the team's 22nd game this year reaching double-digits. Quinones was the only Tiger with more than one hit, finishing 3-for-5.
Tag Pacot (3-2) earned the win in relief, retiring all five SNU batters he faced from the seventh to the eighth innings. Bermudez allowed SNU to get into scoring position in the ninth, but worked out of the jam to earn his fourth save of the season.
The Tigers have a quick turnaround before hosting Harding on Tuesday for the team's final non-conference game of the season. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Rab Rodgers Field.
