TIGERS KEEP IT CLOSE, FALL TO SECOND-PLACE SNU

BETHANY, Oklahoma – The Ouachita softball team gave the second-place Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene all they wanted in a 7-5 back-and-forth loss Monday afternoon.

Ouachita came out ready to play in the series finale as Remington Adams hit an RBI double that scored Bailey King in the top of the first to give The Tigers an early lead over Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm were quick to answer with two runs in the bottom of the first frame to take their first lead of the game. SNU added two more runs in the second to extend its lead to 4-1.

The Tiger offense woke back up in the third inning as they put together a four-run frame. Adams scored Lauren Lester with her second RBI double to make the score 4-2. Katelyn Provence reached on an RBI fielder's choice that scored King to make it a one-run game. Provence then stole second, forcing a throw and allowing Adams to score from third to tie the game at 4-4. A Jordyn Merrett RBI double brought Provence around to put Ouachita back on top 5-4.

This would be the last scoring for Ouachita and SNU added three runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead. The Tigers were able to get runners in scoring position late in the game but were unable to bring them around to score. Ouachita fell by the final score of 7-5 to the second-place Crimson Storm.

Remington Adams led the offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Adams leads the Tigers with 27 RBI on the season and was the only Tiger to record multiple hits. Five other Tigers recorded hits in the loss and King led the team with two runs scored.
Tuesday Melton came in and threw two full innings of hitless relief out of the bullpen.

The Tigers will look to get back in the win column with their final midweek contests of the season as they travel to take on the Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The midweek doubleheader was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but has been pushed back to Wednesday, April 24 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
