ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita baseball team opened up the final weekend series of the regular season with a 12-9, 10-inning win over Henderson State across the street at Clyde Berry Field.
Down 9-7 with two outs in the ninth, Ouachita's
Wesley Scott hit a line-drive home run over the left field fence to score two and tie the game. It was Scott's seventh round-tripper of the season
Then after
Tag Pacot held the Reddies scoreless in the bottom of the ninth,
Michael Quinones came through with two outs with a three-run, opposite field home run in the top of the 10th inning to land the final blow. It was Quinones' 13th home run of the year, which ties him for the team lead.
Dustin Bermudez came on in the bottom of the 10th and proceeded to retire the HSU side in order, including a pair of strikeouts to finish off the Reddies (25-21, 18-13 GAC). It was Bermudez' fifth save of the year.
The first eight innings of Friday's game was back-and-forth with the Tigers taking the first lead on an RBI double from
Cade Burris in the top of the first inning. HSU answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and another two runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead.
G. Allen and
Cade Burris each hit two-run home runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 5-5. It was Allen's 12th home run of the year and Burris' 10th.
Ouachita took a 7-5 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Bermudez. HSU answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, including a three-run homerun to take a 9-7 lead and set the stage for Ouachita ninth and 10th inning rallies.
The Tigers finished with 16 hits, matching a season-high, led by Allen, Burris, and
Tallon Heine with three hits each.
Pacot earned the win and improved to 4-2 on the season after holding the Reddies scoreless on just one hit in 2.1 innings of relief.
